Company restaurant
Multi-functional company restaurant
studioMERZ transformed an anonymous company restaurant in The Hague into a flexible, multi-functional space. The task was to design a space where employees can and want to meet. With a coffee-corner, additional meeting and work space, a restaurant and a presentation room for 90+ people.
Two autonomous, fully plywood ‘sheds’ provide the desired identity and divide the large floor area into 3 parts. The existing space is ignored, so to speak, and has not been modified. The ‘sheds’ stand alone in this, taking it over and thus diverting attention from the standard office environment. Lounge sofas with felt cushions, wooden blocks and unique dining tables enhance the image.
By also using already existing tables and chairs and choosing simple lighting and cheap but durable materials, the design could be realised on a limited budget.
Bathroom
Bathroom underneath mezzanine
We designed and realised a bathroom with a high level of finish within a limited budget. The walls are finished smooth and watertight, anthracite tiles are used on the floor and the ceiling, as part of the mezzanine, is made of plywood.
The small but bright bathroom has a balcony door. Therefore, the bathroom is designed for a nice view of the city while showering.
Alt wird neu - Residential house in Germany
Alt wird neu - Residential house in Germany
A charming little house with a derelict property above the garage next door. What’s possible?
A Dutch couple (book seller and graphic designer) moved to the east of Germany. studioMERZ designed the new house and supervised the large-scale renovation.
The two properties were joined together, creating a labyrinth-like space. Mainly made of birch plywood, we realised a new living kitchen, mezzanine, bedroom and bathroom together with Boys With Wood. With new bookcases and other furniture, we created a new house. A new home.
